Weather website recently released its winter forecast, which predicted a season that will be “brutal for the Midwest and Great Lakes.” AccuWeather says La Niña, a weather phenomenon caused by lower than average sea surface temperatures across the central and eastern Pacific Ocean, should produce a “volatile weather pattern” and deal the Midwest and Great Lakes region the worst of winter this year.

“Snowfall is predicted to be above normal from Minnesota and Iowa into Michigan, Ohio and parts of West Virginia and Kentucky. This buildup of snow cover across the Midwest and Great Lakes could act to prolong the colder-than-normal weather beyond February and into early spring.” –
